Hore Jannat Losi is (35) is married. Her family consists of 4 members. She has one son and one daughter. She lives with her husband at Juarianala, Ilishia Bazar, under Ramu Upazila, Cox’s Bazar. Her husband’s name is Mahmudul Karim. The eldest son’s name is Saimon. He is eight years old. He reads in class two in a Noorani Madrasah near his home. Her daughter’s name is Samiha. She is two and a half years old. Hure Jannat Losi supports her husband from dress making with sewing machine. Though she was poor and needy, but she lives with her beloved family happily .
Suddenly one day, she started to feel extreme problems with her family’s poverty. Because her husband has no income due to unemployment. She was searching to get a job opportunity so that can survive with his happy family. Hore Jannat Losi began to think about how can she turn this bad situation in the family. In this situation, she needs to do something for her family. One day she heard about female migration VISA through her close neighbor. In the meantime, she had consulted this issue with her husband. Her husband agreed upon with his wife Hore Jannat’s desire to migrate for overseas job and get rid of curse of poverty and bring sufficiency in the family. Then she did proceed to broker for migration assistance and shared her knowledge sewing machine operation. The broker had offered a worker visa (Tailoring) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and different types of facilities there while doing a job abroad for extra income. She was motivated by the broker in various ways. The broker had demanded 300,000 (Three hundred thousand Taka) cash for bearing migration cost. After a certain period, she felt mental pressure to go abroad and how to manage migration cost. Then she tried to manage migration cost with restless hard work. Finally, she took Tk. 150,000 (One hundred and fifty thousand) loan from Grameen Bank. And borrowed remaining Tk. 150,000 from her close relatives. After paying all the money to the broker, she finally flied for her dream job in KSA but she had been cheated by the broker because she found domestic work as house maid visa. She was a victim of fraud, became tortured a lot by the Kafeel and the restless pressure of working day after day. After three years of migration life as a domestic worker in Saudi Arabia, she finally returned on 2nd June 2021 to her home country with much difficulty, experience of torture and harassment. She is still burdened with debt.
One day she heard from her relatives about “RAISE” project and its benefits and went to the Welfare Centre, Cox’s Bazar. She was well received. At first, she had been screened and registered in the Welfare Center with proper documents which proved her migration history and return. Afterwards, she was given counseling sympathetically and empathetically for her vulnerability and need assessment about 40 minutes. Her data is recorded in the national database server of Returning Migrants through MIS system. After counseling, she was referred to ETS IT Institution dated on 28th February 2024 for Tailoring (Sewing Machine Operation) training so that she can receive services as per her need assessment and tailored reintegration plan. She has completed her tailoring training successfully. Now she is a sewing expert. With the help of cash incentive support from the RAISE project, she has bought a sewing machine for 9,000 Taka. She has started to improve her professional clothes stitching and daily business activities from her home. Now she has no more sorrow and getting out of poverty by empowering herself. This is the life changing transition that previously she had worked abroad as a domestic worker and struggled with poverty. Now she is doing her business by sewing clothes in her house.
At present, Hure Jannat Losi is delighted with her self-employment and forever grateful to the Welfare Centre, WEWB and RAISE project’s Implementing Partner PROTTYASHI for providing support to change her life.
