The monsoon-induced flash floods and landslides caused widespread devastation across the southeastern and northeastern regions of Bangladesh. Around 1.11 million people were affected across 10 districts, including 609,411 people severely impacted in the seven worst-hit districts. The disaster claimed 59 lives, injured 40 people, and left one person missing. A total of 56 upazilas, 374 unions, and 4 municipalities were inundated.
Approximately 80,000 houses were damaged, while 344 educational institutions across the Chattogram Division were affected. Critical infrastructure also suffered extensive damage, including 3,840 kilometers of roads and 339 bridges and culverts. Agriculture experienced severe losses, with 54,470 hectares of cropland damaged, affecting 324,358 farming households. The fisheries sector lost 7,613 metric tons of fish, while 21,764 ponds and 784 commercial fish enclosures were destroyed. The livestock sector was also heavily impacted, with more than 3 million poultry birds and 439,000 cattle, buffaloes, goats, and sheep affected.
In response to this humanitarian crisis, PROTTYASHI provided emergency food assistance to approximately 9,500 affected families across the worst-hit areas. Each food package contained rice, lentils, edible oil, potatoes, onions, puffed rice, oral rehydration salts (ORS), sanitary napkins, and other essential items, helping to address the immediate needs of vulnerable households and ease their suffering during the emergency.
