Promoting Shelter Upgradation and Community Building for Rohingya Refugees in Bhasan char and Cox’s bazar District

The project focuses on strengthening the livelihoods and self-reliance of Rohingya refugees in Bhasan Char through skills development, training, and economic opportunities. It began with livelihood counselling sessions to introduce the project and identify suitable trades, followed by training on life skills, financial literacy, decision-making, and personal safety. Participants are receiving off-farm and on-farm vocational training in areas such as hand stitching, embroidery, aquaculture, and agriculture, with in-kind support provided to help them apply their skills.

Major Achievements

500

Out of the targeted 500 participants (100 on-farm and 400 off-farm), training has been completed for 22%, is ongoing for 16%, and the remaining 62% is scheduled for the current and next quarters.

Training room setup completed with proper decoration and grill fencing to ensure a secure and conducive learning environment.

Beneficiary database and Cash-for-Work (CFW) tracker have been updated to ensure accurate monitoring and reporting.

Skills Development Among Rohingya Refugees

A major achievement of the project is the successful setup of a secure and well-equipped training space, creating a safe and conducive environment for skills development among Rohingya refugees in Bhasan Char.

Major Activities

Conducted livelihood counselling sessions to guide beneficiaries on skill development opportunities.

Delivered training on life skills, financial literacy, and decision-making to build foundational capacities.

Provided off-farm and on-farm vocational training in trades like sewing, embroidery, aquaculture, and agriculture.

Distributed in-kind support to both new and previous beneficiaries to initiate or expand income-generating activities.

Organized product fairs and installed kiosks in Dhaka and Chittagong to promote and sell refugee-made products.

Launched social media campaigns to increase visibility and market reach.

Engaged beneficiaries in Cash-for-Work programs for short-term income and community service involvement.
