The Raihan nursery, owner Md. Hossion, age 65, T&T, Rajapalong. His family member is 6 and no PWD there in. He is illiterate and used to do bamboo business before starting nursey. But he quit this bamboo business due to lack of capital. Then he became unemployed and faced various problems like financial crisis and other issues. Then he decided to start a horticulture nursery and to sell fruit sapling on his own land sized180 decimal. At the very beginning he used to produce mango sapling and few other vegetable seedlings. His wife is a housewife and sometimes assist him in his outside works.
Then he has been selected as nursery beneficiary of SHINE project and received training and cash support of 40000 taka to initiate a modern horticulture nursery.
He bought spade, water cane, water drum, bamboo, polybag with other agriculture tools and started producing fruit and vegetable seedlings. After that he is developing day by day and now, he starts to earn a lot. Then Raiyan-Arefin nursery sold 10000-piece papaya and 18324 brinjal seedlings of 4 lac BDT to SHINE project beneficiary at camp 5 and 3 till to September. After that he is using to sell different vegetables like pumpkin, sweet gourd, cucumber, chili, Bombay chili seedlings to different NGOs for camp purpose. He sold about 4.5 lac BDT from the beginning till to date. He is maintaining a book for income and expenditure.
Two of Rohingya people from Kuthupalong camp are using to purchase vegetable seedlings regular basis. They come one day after another and each of them take vegetable seedlings of about 1000 BDT and sell to Rohingya camp. Moreover, different NGOs are using to purchasing seedlings for “Rohingya people from Raiyan-Arefin nursery”2 of Rohingya people of Kuthupalong camp has been working as permeant labor and each of them received 15000 BDT per month as wage from the beginning till to date. There have 2 female part time labors who are paid to 6000 taka per month and they can now contribute to their family also and they are positively evaluated in the family. Thus, a good relation among the nursery owner and Rohingya people has built up and indirectly about 3000`Rohingya people are benefited per month, and 2 people can lead their life directly from the “Raiyan-Arefin nursery”.
He is now self-employed, and his future planning is to enlarge the nursery, add flower seedlings along with other ornamental plants and to continue nursery business.
