Khaleda, a resilient and determined woman, married Nurur Kabir at the age of 19. Now 30, she lives in East Taipalong, Rajapalong Union, under Ukhiya Upazila. Her husband’s family was not well-off, and from the very beginning, Khaleda strived to overcome the persistent economic challenges they faced. Her husband works as a CNG driver, and together they are raising three daughters.
Khaleda is not just a housewife but also a hard-working and resourceful woman. In May 2020, she joined Prottyashi and received a month-long training on dyeing. This opportunity marked the beginning of a transformative journey for her. Khaleda, an intelligent and proactive individual, quickly put her newfound skills to use, producing dyed clothes to contribute to her family’s income. She began receiving orders from Swadesh Palli, a sister concern of Prottyashi, which helped her establish a steady source of earnings.
Her straw-made house, fenced with bamboo, became a testament to her perseverance. Through practical demonstrations and hands-on experience, Khaleda honed her dyeing skills and gained confidence in her abilities. Her decision-making and bargaining skills improved significantly, enabling her to negotiate better terms with Swadesh Palli. Over time, her income began to grow steadily.
Previously, Khaleda’s family struggled to afford three meals a day. However, her increasing income from dyeing clothes has brought significant changes to their lives. She can now provide fruits and clothes for her children, something that was once a luxury. Khaleda dreams of rebuilding her home with tin sheets using her savings in the near future.
Reflecting on her journey, Khaleda expressed heartfelt gratitude: “During the COVID-19 pandemic, PROTTYASHI provided us with unconditional cash support, which was a lifeline for our family. They also gave us a gas cylinder every month, which eased our daily struggles. I pray that PROTTYASHI continues to assist poor people like us in the future.”
