Humaira Jannat Tahiya who lives with her parents Najir Ahamd and Senuwara Begum is a learner at Lily ECD Learning Center of Prottyashi, located at Rahmoter Bill, Palongkhali, Ukhiya. She used to spend most of her days taking care of her younger brother while her parents worked hard as laborers. One day, Humaira looked around and saw other children from neighborhood going to a special place called Lily ECD Learning Center. She felt a bit sad because she wanted to go there too. She wanted to learn and have fun like them.
Following that, Humaira tells her father how much she wants to go to the learning center. Her father listened to her and realized how important education was to her. Despite their economic problems, he decided to enroll her in the education center. It was a big day when Humaira started going there in November 2023.
But things were not easy for Humaira at first. She felt shy and afraid to join the activities. Her facilitator Yasmin notices this and wants to help her. Yasmin was kind and patient. She encouraged Humaira and helped her feel more confident. Slowly Humaira started to open. She started joining her friends in games and singing. She even started asking questions, sharing her thoughts with the class and taking ownership of her learnings.
Her facilitator Yasmin recalls, “Humaira was introverted at first, but with consistent encouragement and support she overcame her shyness. She now actively participates in all activities, asks questions when needed and shows a keen interest in learning.” Humaira’s transformation is a testament to the transformative power of education in fostering confidence and holistic development.
Humaira’s story wasn’t just about her. It was about many kids like her in the village. With the help of organization like Prottyashi, IRC, and programs like Education Cannot Wait (ECW), all working together to make sure every child could go to school and learn. They believed that every child deserved a chance to shine. So that, they can display a growing curiosity about the world around them, equipped with the tools to navigate it with confidence and agency with each passing day. Among them, Humaira Jannat Tahiya’s journey serves as a beacon of hope, inspiring others to believe in the transformative power of education and the infinite potential of every child.
