Unity in Action: Cultivating Sustainable Livelihoods, Community Leadership and Social Harmony in addressing Climate Challenges in Host and Rohingya Communities.

The project, implemented by PROTTYASHI in partnership with Oxfam in Bangladesh, adopted an integrated approach to support Rohingya refugees and host communities in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, focusing on livelihoods and skills development, protection and disaster risk reduction (DRR), and gender justice and social inclusion (GJSI). Livelihood interventions promoted homestead gardening, portable skill training, cash-for-work (CFW), and anticipatory climate actions to address food insecurity and create income opportunities, with a strong focus on the participation of women and youth.

Protection components localized DRR by renovating cyclone shelters into women-friendly safe spaces, embedding protection protocols into emergency plans, and strengthening community capacity in evacuation and emergency response to reduce growing risks such as violence and forced recruitment.

GJSI activities promoted feminist leadership, GBV prevention, and climate awareness through youth-led dialogues, community networks, and visual communication, while ensuring safe spaces for reporting and accessing support.

The project prioritized local partnerships with NGOs, CBOs, and government stakeholders, especially in camp-adjacent host communities, to ensure effective, accountable, and sustainable implementation. Through its inclusive and multi-sectoral design, the project contributed to long-term resilience, improved social cohesion, and climate-adaptive livelihoods in line with the JRP 2024 framework.
